Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This pair of French Rococo Revival candelabra from 1860 is made from patinated bronze, gilt bronze, and white marble, displaying a striking contrast of dark brown and gold tones. Each piece features a standing patinated bronze cherub or putto figure perched upon rocky ground, supporting sweeping leafy branches styled as flowers that serve as five candle nozzles. The figural sculptures stand on circular white marble plinth bases decorated with beaded ormolu mounts and raised on shaped feet. Measuring 61 cm high, 30.5 cm wide, and 30.5 cm deep, these decorative items suit placement on a mantelpiece within a traditional interior setting.

FAQs

These decorative items typically feature sculpted patinated bronze figures of cherubs or putti supporting branching candle arms made of gilt bronze, popularised during the Louis XV and Louis XVI revival periods in France.

Traditional construction combines cast patinated bronze for figurative elements with mercury-gilded bronze, known as ormolu, for floral foliage and candle nozzles, mounted onto carved marble or onyx bases.

Authentic pieces exhibit precise chasing details in the metalwork, heavy cast weight, hand-threaded iron or brass square nuts on the underside, and natural wear or oxidisation to the gilding.

A symmetrical arrangement on a marble fireplace mantelpiece or a dining room sideboard creates a strong focal point, pairing well with contemporary artwork or structured mirrors.

Dust gently using a soft, dry camel-hair brush, avoiding liquid chemical cleaners or metal polish pastes which can strip original mercury gilding or patination.
