Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

The Louis XVI style is defined by a return to classical symmetry, neoclassical proportions, and motifs inspired by antiquity, such as floral garlands, foliage, acanthus leaves, and cherub or putti figures. During the 19th century, French craftsmen revived these 18th-century forms using fine gilt bronze casting and contrasting patinated elements.

19th-century French candelabra were typically constructed using cast bronze with fire-gilded (ormolu) or patinated finishes, often paired with imported marble bases such as rouge marble or statuary marble. The combination of dark patinated metal figures and bright gilt foliage was a favoured technique to create visual contrast.

Authentic 19th-century pieces display crisp, hand-chased detail in the casting, natural wear to the gilded high points, and heavy, solid construction. The underside often reveals threaded iron rods, square nuts, and hand-tooled casting seam joins rather than modern uniform screws or light hollow alloys.

A pair of candelabra can be displayed symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or console table to frame artwork or a central mirror. Their metallic contrast and sculptural silhouette provide anchor points in both traditional and minimalist interior schemes.

Dust regularly using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or a fine camel-hair brush to clean intricate recesses. Avoid chemical polish, water, or abrasive cleaners, as these can strip the delicate gilded layer or scratch the original bronze patina.
