Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early 19th-century English housekeepers cupboard exemplifies traditional country style in solid pine with a cream-painted finish. The breakfront outline incorporates a moulded cornice at the top, fielded panel doors across the upper and lower sections, and small bracket feet at the base. Brass drop handles with backplates secure the lower drawers, while brass key escutcheons adorn the central upper cabinet doors. The visible surface displays gentle wear throughout the paintwork, adding character to the piece. Measuring 206 cm high, 218 cm wide and 62 cm deep, the unit provides substantial storage capacity for a hallway, bedroom or living space. Linen, garments and household items find practical organisation within the flanking side cupboards and central shelved compartments. The neutral cream tone integrates easily into diverse interiors, lending an authentic period accent to modern homes.

FAQs

An antique housekeepers cupboard is a substantial piece of utility furniture traditionally used in English country houses during the 18th and 19th centuries to store household linens, dry foodstuffs, and domestic supplies.

These cupboards were typically constructed from solid softwoods such as pine, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, mortise and tenon frame construction, panelled doors, and painted finishes applied directly to the timber.

Authentic pieces display historical wear patterns on high-touch areas, timber shrinkage around panels, multi-layered painted surfaces with age-related craquelure, and period-correct iron or brass hardware.

A housekeepers cupboard serves as a functional focal point in modern kitchens, dining rooms, or hallways, providing extensive concealed storage for dinnerware, textiles, or pantry items while adding architectural texture.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, dry cloth and avoid harsh chemical cleaners or water that could compromise the original paint finish, maintaining a stable indoor climate to reduce timber movement.
