Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Longcase clocks, commonly referred to as grandfather clocks, originated in the mid-17th century following the invention of the pendulum mechanism by Christiaan Huygens. Musical longcase clocks emerged later as high-status horological pieces, incorporating extra gear trains and chiming barrels or tubular chimes to play specific melodies on the hour.

Cabinetry was typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as mahogany, oak, or walnut, often featuring decorative veneers like burr walnut or flame mahogany. Internal movements were crafted predominantly from brass plates and steel arbors, accompanied by heavy cast brass weights and steel pendulum rods.

Authenticity is indicated by matching construction techniques between the case and movement, correct period hand-cut joinery, correct weight and pendulum mounting points, and signatures engraved onto the dial or brass movement plates. Period dials often feature cast spandrels and engraved chapter rings aligned with the styling of the cabinet.

A tall longcase clock functions well as a focal architectural anchor in entry hallways, formal dining rooms, or living spaces. Juxtaposing dark mahogany wood against modern, neutral wall tones creates clear visual interest while highlighting the historical craftsmanship of the case.

Mechanical longcase clock movements require professional cleaning and lubrication every five to seven years to prevent wear on the pivots and bushings. Cabinets should be kept away from direct heat sources or high humidity, and the wood finish preserved using a high-quality beeswax paste.
