A Bronze Mantle Clock By V.A.P.

An unusual French mantel clock in a bronze case by Victor Anathase Pierret, the bronze case patinated in matt black, with a plain rectangular top with cavetto moulding below over a glazed front and plain sides and on a plinth base, and with a silvered dial, Roman numerals in black with an outer minute track and black steel hands, to the rear a hinged door opening to the eight day spring driven movement with a platform lever escapement with a steel balance wheel, stamped lower centre V.A.P Breveté S.G.D.G. (Warranted without Government guarantee). Retailed by Dixon of Norwich. French, circa 1850.
 
Victor Anathase Pierret (1806-1868) made clocks in Paris, and exhibited at the Great Exhibition in London in 1851. He stopped working in 1865.
 
Condition: Excellent, the clock is in superb condition and the case is virtually blemish free. The movement has been fully serviced and overhauled and is in working condition. The clock is supplied with a key.
