Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Danish Biedermeier pedestal cabinet from 1860 follows an elegant oval footprint finished in polished flame mahogany with a rich dark reddish-brown hue. The piece displays a single curved door secured with a small brass keyhole escutcheon, flanked by fluted pilasters topped with carved Corinthian capitals. Subtle moulded detailing runs along the stepped base and projecting crown, while the rich grain pattern of the wood creates dramatic movement across the front surface. Measuring 140 cm high, 67 cm wide and 45 cm deep, this vertical storage unit provides compact utility for modern interiors. Position this tall cabinet in a hallway, bedroom or living room to serve as an accent piece or storage surface. The narrow profile fits neatly against walls or into corners where floor space is limited, offering a practical surface for display items alongside concealed interior shelving. The classic neoclassical silhouette integrates smoothly with traditional and eclectic decor schemes, bringing warmth and historical character to contemporary living spaces without overwhelming the room.

FAQs

Originating in Northern Europe during the early to mid-19th century, these cabinets feature simplified Neoclassical forms, architectural symmetry, and prominent natural wood grain such as flame mahogany veneer.

Craftsmen typically utilised high-grade timber veneers, notably flame mahogany or birch, applied over solid pine or oak carcases, often accented with cast brass escutcheons and hand-carved pilasters.

Authentic period pieces show signs of hand-planed secondary timbers, hand-cut joinery on internal shelving, original keyhole escutcheons, and natural craquelure or age-related patination in the finish.

Position the cabinet as an accent piece in a hallway, alongside contemporary seating, or as a nightstand, pairing its deep wood tones with neutral wall colours and modern sculptural accessories.

Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth and applying beeswax polish periodically.
