Condition / Servicing Note:

Please note that antique clocks are complex and sensitive mechanical objects. While some clocks may be running at the time of listing we cannot guarantee ongoing performance without a full inspection and testing period by our specialist horologist. Where inspection, testing, or servicing is required this process can take between 2–12 weeks depending on the clock, the work needed, and current workload. This careful approach helps ensure the clock is properly assessed rather than rushed.

Clock Warranty

All clocks purchased from London City Antiques are supplied with a 12-month warranty from the date of purchase.

This warranty covers mechanical faults and failures arising from normal use. It does not extend to damage resulting from improper handling, unauthorised tampering, accidental or physical damage, environmental factors (including humidity, temperature fluctuations, or exposure to direct sunlight), or misuse.

Should a clock develop a genuine fault within the warranty period that meets the above conditions, we will, at our discretion and at no cost to you, arrange for the repair or replacement of any defective parts. All remedial work will be carried out by a fully qualified and experienced horologist.

In the unlikely event that a fault cannot be satisfactorily resolved, a full refund will be offered.

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the nineteenth century, mechanical table and desk clocks became popular status items for domestic interiors and private offices. Cabinetmakers utilised figured timber veneers, such as burr walnut, alongside contrast ebonised accents to enclose precision clock movements.

These timepieces typically feature solid hardwood frames covered in decorative veneers like walnut or mahogany, often with ebonised wooden borders. Dial components combine brass plates, decorative corner spandrels, glass faces, and steel clock hands.

Authentic period clocks show age-appropriate patina on the brass and wood, natural movement in the timber veneer, and hand-cut or hand-assembled mechanical components inside the case. The presence of maker marks on the dial or movement backplate also aids identification.

Position the timepiece as a functional focal point on an executive writing desk, a styled bookshelf, or a living room mantelpiece. Pairing the warm timber tones with dark paint, brass accessories, or modern stationary creates balanced visual contrast.

Keep the timber case away from direct sunlight, dampness, and central heating sources to avoid veneer movement or cracking. Clean the wood using a dry microfiber cloth, apply natural beeswax sparingly, and ensure the mechanical movement is serviced regularly by a professional horologist.
