Port Z 23/Nov24 a French Gilt Bronze Figural Mantle Clock of a Mediaeval Knight in Armour on Horseback Holding a Sword, Riding to Battle.

Description

The original gilded case showing memorial trophies and motifs under the dial.

Roman dial, the twin drum movement with outside countwheel striking on a bell on the hours and half hours.

The dial and the movement is signed by the maker. “Louis-Constantin Detouche”.

Circa 1860.

Louis-Constantin Detouche ran the watchmaking business of his father, Georges Detouche. In 1830, he moved to 158-160 rue Saint-Martin and specialized in precision clocks, scientific instruments such as regulators , and jewelry. Having acquired land in Villemomble, he became mayor of this commune.He is buried in the old cemetery of Villemomble”.
