Wonderful Welsh oak coffor bach, or miniature chest, with a beautiful untouched reddish surface finish.
The coffor bach was a miniature version of the large chests used in every farmhouse in Wales to hold the blankets and quilts. Both ful size and small versions were associated with marriages, and taken by the bride to her new home.
At only 20 inches wide, this example is small even by coffor bach standards. It has a pair of deeply and crisply cut gothic-shaped panels over a pair of tiny drawers, and is raised on bracket feet.
The handles have been repaced at some point, and the former fragile pin hinges replaced with wrought iron hinges. Onr of thr side feet has been replaced.
