Westminster-chime Mantel/bracket Clock

1920 - 1940
For Sale by Masons Antiques
Description

A pleasure to offer a very fine example of these very popular clocks that is in lovely condition throughout and ready to go straight to work.

The mahogany case is beautifully polished with a very warm, rich patina.

It contrasts and highlights the chromed bezel and silvered chapter ring. Also the exquisitely cut hands.

The 8 day movement strikes the Westminster=Chime on the quarters and the hour. It has just been fully serviced by our BHI registered horologist and carries our usual 12mths full parts and labour guarantee. It strikes on rods, giving a very crisp and clear tone. It has a STRIKE/SILENT button fitted.

Delivery available Worldwide.

All cards accepted.

Special Note: The clock in real life looks far superior to our photos. This is because we are very good at clocks and very bad at photography.

Date of Manufacture

Masons Antiques has dated this Art Deco Mantel Clock to the 1930s.

This Westminster-Chime mantel/bracket clock belongs to the 1930 Art Deco period. The structural design takes the form of a stepped rectangular wooden casing finished in a rich brown mahogany veneer with a warm polished patina, complemented by a silvered chapter ring displaying Roman numerals, a polished chrome bezel trim enclosing the glass dial cover, and cut metal hands. Three winding holes are visible on the timber-veneered face alongside a strike/silent lever on the right-hand side, while the base sits on stepped block feet. The dimensions measure 23 cm high, 29 cm wide, and 13 cm deep. Placed upon a mantelpiece, sideboard, or desk in a living room, study, or hallway, it serves as both a timekeeper and an interior decorative accessory.

Art Deco mantel clocks were produced primarily during the 1920s and 1930s, characterised by clean geometric shapes, bold typography, and rich timber veneers paired with modern metal trims.

These timepieces typically feature rich wood veneers such as walnut, mahogany, or oak, combined with brass or chrome bezel trims, silvered dials, and internal mechanical movements.

Authentic 1930s pieces usually feature three winding keyholes on the dial face for time, strike, and chime mechanisms, alongside stylized hands, geometric casing, and mechanical movements.

Position the clock centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard, pairing it with minimalist ceramics or structured framed artwork to complement the geometric silhouette.

Wind the mechanism regularly using the correct size key, avoid placing the timber case near direct heat sources or high humidity, and arrange for professional movement servicing every five to seven years.
