Description

Antique 19th century Victorian side cupboard in pitch pine, a handsome and well-proportioned piece of good quality, showcasing fine craftsmanship and the honest country character so typical of the period.

The cupboard features a full-width frieze drawer fitted with a pair of decorative brass ring handles on pierced backplates and a central brass escutcheon. Below, a pair of panelled doors with a brass knob and keyhole open to reveal a spacious interior with two shelves, providing generous and practical storage.

The doors are set with beaded tongue-and-groove panels, a detail repeated on both sides of the case. The moulded top has a small upstand to the back, and the whole piece stands on a solid plinth base. The back is made up of traditional vertical boards.

The pitch pine displays a wonderful, strongly figured grain and a warm, rich colour with a lovely aged patina, particularly striking across the drawer front.

Presented in good condition, with some marks and wear to the top in keeping with its age. A very desirable and versatile Victorian cupboard, perfect for a hallway, kitchen, dining room or study.
