This Art Deco paperweight takes the form of a foraging sparrow with its head lowered and tail raised. Created in 1930, the piece is fashioned from clear glass with a frosted finish and shows moulded feather detailing across the wings, back, and tail, alongside detailed carving around the head and beak. The sculpture bears an engraved signature on the base reading R Lalique France. Measuring 9 cm high by 10.5 cm wide, the paperweight fits comfortably on flat surfaces. This sculptural object works well placed on an office desk to hold loose papers in place while adding a decorative element to the workspace.

Rene Lalique began producing decorative glass paperweights and desk ornaments in France during the early 20th century. His designs transitioned from Art Nouveau motifs to geometric and stylized natural forms characteristic of the Art Deco movement.

Lalique objects were crafted using demi-cristal or lead glass, formed via demi-cristal press-moulding techniques. Contrast was created by applying satin or frosted finishes alongside polished clear surfaces to highlight surface texture and form.

Authentic pieces generally feature hand-engraved, moulded, or acid-etched signatures such as R. Lalique or Lalique France. Additionally, genuine items display precise mould lines, clear definition in high-relief details, and specific proportions documented in catalogue raisonnes.

A glass paperweight can be placed on an office desk, styled atop a stack of books on a coffee table, or positioned inside a display cabinet. Lighting placed behind or near the frosted glass enhances the translucent properties and decorative relief.

Frosted glass should be dusted regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and cleaned using lukewarm water with mild liquid soap. Abrasive chemical cleaners and harsh scrubbers must be avoided to prevent scratching or compromising acid-etched surface treatments.
