This small Georgian hanging corner cupboard is from the 18th century and is made of dark brown oak with brass hardware. The structure has a flared cornice, a moulded base, and an enclosed single door with a hand-carved foliate panel. A decorative brass keyhole escutcheon sits on the door alongside a hanging tassel key, and visible hinges secure the door to the right side panel. The wood displays varied grain patterns and natural surface weathering consistent with age. Measuring 76 cm high, 58 cm wide, and 34 cm deep, it has compact proportions suitable for wall mounting. In a modern interior, this piece provides practical storage for glassware, tableware, or everyday items while occupying an empty corner of a kitchen, dining room, or hallway. The wall-hung design utilises vertical space efficiently without taking up floor area, bringing traditional English country house character to compact rooms. The interior contains one shaped shelf behind the locked door to organise contents securely.

Hanging corner cupboards gained popularity in 18th-century homes as efficient spatial storage solutions, typically utilised to secure valuable items such as tea, spirits, and spices off the floor.

These pieces are predominantly constructed from solid English oak, joined using traditional hand-cut mortise and tenon joinery, often secured with wooden pegs and featuring hand-carved decorative panels.

Authentic examples exhibit period-correct features such as hand-planed backboards, irregular pegging, hand-forged iron or brass fittings, and natural age-related shrinkage across the timber panels.

Position the piece in an underutilised dining room or hallway corner to add vertical interest, balancing dark oak tones with neutral plaster walls, modern ceramics, or brass wall sconces.

Preserve the natural timber patina by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a high-quality beeswax paste annually, while avoiding direct heat sources and harsh chemical cleaners.
