This unusual Minton's vase originates from the 1900 Victorian art pottery period. It is formed from glazed ceramic earthenware with a bulbous body, a short flared neck, and a high-gloss finish. The exterior displays a deep burgundy-brown glaze with indentations or dimpled sides pressed into the rounded ceramic body. Light reflects brightly across the smooth surface, revealing the rich red-brown tones and the gently flared rim. Measuring 16 x 14 cm, the vase sits easily upon narrow surfaces such as a mantelpiece or a shelf. It suits a study, library, or living room setting as a decorative display object. The compact dimensions allow it to hold a small single stem or display on its own as a piece of period pottery.

Minton was established in Staffordshire in 1793 and became one of the leading British ceramic manufacturers of the nineteenth century. During the Victorian era, the pottery experimented with sculptural forms, dimpled profiles, and rich monochromatic glazes influenced by Asian ceramics and the Aesthetic Movement.

Minton art pottery was typically crafted from fine earthenware or stoneware clay. Pieces were finished with high-gloss liquid glazes, such as deep oxblood red or sang de boeuf, which pooled in surface indentations during firing to produce tonal depth.

Authentic pieces usually feature impressed factory marks on the underside, such as the word MINTON or MINTONS, alongside date cyphers, shape numbers, or painter initials stamped into the clay body beneath the glaze.

Position the vase as an accent piece on a fireplace mantelpiece, open shelving unit, or sideboard. Its deep monochrome finish contrasts effectively against light neutral plaster, polished timber, or stone backgrounds.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth. If washing is required, use tepid water with a mild detergent and dry thoroughly immediately; avoid abrasive cleaning agents, chemicals, or immersion in hot water.
