Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A large pair of mid-19th century Delft vases made from earthenware with a tin glaze. The pair is decorated in a blue and white colour scheme featuring hand-painted Chinoiserie figures within oriental landscape panels, floral cartouches, and ribbed bodies. Each lidded vase is topped with a seated foo dog finial on the cover, and one vase has a small triangle piece glued back in that remains unnoticeable to the naked eye. Each vessel measures 58x23x23 cm. This traditional Delftware set fits the English Country House design style well and is suitable for placement on a sideboard top in a living room, dining room, or hallway to complement classic interior settings.

FAQs

Delftware refers to tin-glazed earthenware manufactured in the Netherlands from the 16th century onwards, created to emulate imported Chinese blue and white porcelain for the European market.

These vases are crafted from refined clay fired into earthenware, coated in an opaque white tin glaze, hand-painted with cobalt oxide pigments, and fired a second time to set the colour.

Authentic pieces generally feature minor surface glaze crazing, unglazed reddish-brown earthenware visible along the foot rim, and maker or factory marks painted in cobalt blue under the glaze on the underside.

A pair of large Delftware vases provides balance and classical structure when placed symmetrically atop a dark wood sideboard, console table, or fireplace mantelpiece.

Clean gently using a soft, dry microfiber cloth. Avoid immersing the ceramic in water or using abrasive chemical cleaners, as water can penetrate fine crazing and weaken the earthenware core.
