Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian narrow mahogany bookcase or vitrine from 1910 displays a warm brown timber colour with visible wood grain, polished brass hardware including decorative corner mounts and flower head accents on the door, and a clear glass panel in the single door. Standing on small turned brass-mounted feet with a moulded plinth at the base, it incorporates fluted columns flanking the glazed upper section and a panelled lower section with raised brass-inlaid mouldings. The upper cabinet contains four internal wooden shelves visible behind the glass, while the top edge features a decorative brass gallery. Measuring 165 cm high, 68.5 cm wide, and 38 cm deep, the cabinet provides compact vertical storage. Suitable for a gentleman's library, study, or living room, this bookcase functions effectively for displaying books or decorative objects on its adjustable shelves while concealing items within the lower blind storage base. The narrow proportions allow placement in smaller alcoves or limited wall spaces where standard bookcases do not fit. A matching key is included to secure the main cabinet door.

Bookcases from the Edwardian era frequently blend classical proportions with decorative embellishments influenced by French neoclassical design. Key features include fine mahogany veneers, slender vertical proportions, single or double glazed doors, and gilt brass mounts along the frieze, columns, and feet.

High-grade mahogany, walnut, and satinwood were commonly used for framing and veneering. Construction methods relied on traditional joinery such as hand-cut dovetails for drawer linings, mortise and tenon joints for door frames, and hand-fitted brass hardware.

Authentic period mounts typically show hand-chased details, minor inconsistencies in casting, and natural age-related oxidisation in recessed areas. Screws used to attach mounts should feature off-centre slots consistent with period manufacturing rather than modern uniform threads.

A narrow glazed bookcase works well in compact areas such as alcoves, hallways, or narrow wall spaces. Stylists often fill shelves with monochrome book collections, ceramic vessels, or sculptural objects to create depth without visually overwhelming a contemporary room layout.

Dust mahogany surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply high-grade beeswax once or twice a year to preserve the patina. Brass mounts should be left unpolished or gently dusted to preserve original aged patination, avoiding harsh chemical cleaners that can damage surrounding wood finishes.
