This Edwardian mahogany glazed bookcase cabinet originates from the renowned firm Maple & Co. The warm brown timber displays a waxed finish complemented by brass drop handles on the drawers and brass drop pulls on the lower cupboard doors. The upper section comprises a moulded cornice above two glass doors fitted with geometric astragal glazing bars enclosing adjustable shelves. Below sit two frieze drawers over a pair of cupboard doors decorated with raised geometric wooden panels, all supported on slender turned feet. The two-part construction measures 227 cm high, 109 cm wide, and 51 cm deep. Placed in a study, library, or living room, this practical piece provides generous enclosed storage and display space for books and collections.

Edwardian glazed bookcases, produced between 1901 and 1910, feature lighter proportions and classical revival influences compared to heavier Victorian predecessors, frequently incorporating geometric astragal glazing bars and mahogany timber construction.

These pieces were crafted using solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, incorporating dovetailed drawer joints, glass panel inserts, and cast brass handles or keyhole escutcheons.

Authentic pieces display period construction methods, including hand-cut drawer dovetails, original astragal glazing, stamped maker plates or cabinet maker marks, and age-appropriate wear around handles and keyholes.

Position the cabinet against a neutral or painted feature wall in a study, dining room, or living space, styling the interior shelves with books, ceramics, or glassware to contrast the mahogany tone.

Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a traditional beeswax polish annually, keeping the cabinet away from direct sunlight, high humidity, and radiator heat sources to preserve the wood finish.
