This pair of matching Edwardian sectional bookcases originates from 1910 in the Globe Wernicke style. Constructed from warm brown oak, glass, and lead, the five-tier units display a sectional stacking modular design complete with a cornice and plinth base and leaded glass lift-and-slide doors. The visible condition includes six broken panes of glass across the tiered compartments. Each cabinet measures 175 cm high by 87 cm wide and 29 cm deep, offering substantial shelving capacity for storage in a study or library. Ideal for organizing books and display pieces, these tall vertical cabinets suit a traditional gentleman's library or a home office setting. The modular arrangement allows the stacked sections to remain together as a matching pair while providing accessible enclosed shelving behind the leaded glass panes. Their narrow footprint makes them practical for placement against walls in rooms with limited floor space.

Sectional bookcases were patented in the late nineteenth century, gaining immense popularity during the Edwardian era. Designed as modular units that stack upon one another, they allowed legal professionals and academics to expand their library storage as their collections grew.

These bookcases were primarily constructed from solid oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring glass panel door fronts held within metal or timber frames. Internal equalising scissor mechanisms and metal side straps were used to ensure smooth door operation and structural integrity across modules.

Authentic pieces generally feature paper labels or stamped metal plaques inside the individual sections indicating the manufacturers name. They also display characteristic interlocking wooden bands or metal side clips, along with lift-and-slide door mechanisms unique to the brand.

Pairing dark wood sectional cabinets symmetrically alongside a fireplace or artwork creates a balanced focal point in modern living rooms or home offices. The architectural leaded glass offers texture and character without visually overwhelming contemporary decor.

Apply a high-grade beeswax polish to the oak framework periodically to preserve the timbers moisture and lustre. Glass panels should be cleaned with a soft microfibre cloth, and the internal door gliding tracks should be kept clean and lightly lubricated to prevent sticking.
