Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Patented in the late nineteenth century, sectional bookcases were developed by the Globe Wernicke Company to provide expandable, modular storage. The system allowed users to purchase individual stackable units fitted with glass lift-and-recede mechanisms, making them standard equipment for law libraries and offices.

These pieces are typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, featuring glass panel fronts. Modules connect using interlocking tongue-and-groove side joints or brass fittings, while internal metal scissor-arm or roller mechanisms support the glazed doors.

Authenticity can be verified by checking for manufacturer paper labels or brass decal plates inside the individual modules. Additional identifying features include metal interlocking side bands, specific door slider mechanisms, and original brass knobs.

A sectional bookcase functions well as a display cabinet in home offices, living spaces, or hallways. Modern interiors benefit from balancing the warm oak tones with minimalist ceramics, framed monochrome artwork, or curated book collections.

Dust the timber surfaces regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply beeswax polish annually to maintain the original finish. Clean glass panels with a mild cleaner applied directly to a cloth, ensuring solution does not saturate the surrounding wood or door mechanisms.
