Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A barrister bookcase, also known as a sectional bookcase, originated in the late 19th and early 20th centuries to allow legal professionals to transport their personal libraries easily. These modular units featured glazed up-and-over doors to protect valuable law volumes from dust and coal smoke.

Edwardian sectional bookcases were primarily crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut. They typically feature brass fittings, leaded or clear glass door panels, and modular wooden sections designed to interlock securely without visible fixings.

Authentic pieces often display maker stamps or brass labels from manufacturers like Globe-Wernicke or Minty, alongside hand-cut joinery on internal components. Look for original leaded glass detailing, scissor-arm or side-runner door mechanisms, and consistent age patina across the timber.

Integrate the piece into modern spaces by styling the glazed sections with curated collections of art books, ceramics, or glass objects alongside traditional volumes. The lower cupboard offers concealed storage, making it ideal for a modern home office, hallway, or dining space.

Dust the wooden surfaces and glass regularly using a soft microfibre cloth, applying a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the timber. Clean leaded glass gently using non-ammonia glass cleaner applied directly to a cloth rather than sprayed onto the lead work.
