Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

An Oxford sectional bookcase is a modular style of library storage created in the early 20th century, notably manufactured by William Baker & Co Ltd. It consists of self-contained stackable wooden units with glass doors, allowing owners to expand or reconfigure their shelving as required.

These pieces were typically constructed from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, combined with glass front panels and brass drop handles or knobs. Internal mechanisms often used tongue-and-groove jointing or interlocking timber pins to secure each tier.

Authentic pieces usually feature makers stamps, ivory or metal badges, or paper labels bearing the manufacturer name and Oxford location inside the cabinet or on the rear panel. Additionally, examine the distinct opening mechanisms of the glazed doors and the interlocking modular construction.

Place the unit in a modern home office, hallway, or living space to house curated book collections, ceramics, or decorative objects. The glazed front protects items from dust while the warm timber tone adds structural gravitas to neutral colour schemes.

Keep the wood nourished by applying a high-grade beeswax polish along the grain twice a year, avoiding glass surfaces. Clean the glass panes with a dry microfibre cloth, and ensure the bookcase stands on a level floor to maintain balance across the stacked sections.
