This Edwardian barrister bookcase dates from 1920 in the style of a traditional gentleman's library. Constructed from solid oak with a warm brown finish and pronounced grain figure, the tall storage unit stands 186 cm high, 87 cm wide, and 31 cm deep. The design comprises a flared cornice top positioned above five graduated sectional modular tiers with glazed up-and-over doors fitted with small brass knobs, resting upon a substantial plinth base. In a contemporary home, this piece suits a study, home office, or living room for storing books and displaying collections while maintaining a compact footprint against a wall. The modular construction allows the vertical cabinet to organise reading materials efficiently within domestic spaces.

Sectional bookcases were designed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries primarily for legal professionals who needed portable furniture. The modular units allowed entire libraries to be moved without removing the books from individual tiers.

These bookcases were predominantly constructed from solid oak, quarter-sawn oak, or mahogany, featuring glass panel fronts and small brass knobs or side mechanisms for door operation.

Authentic pieces typically feature maker mark labels or metal stamps inside the back panels, interlocking wooden tongue-and-groove joints between sections, and retracting glazed door mechanisms.

A modular glazed bookcase provides closed storage for books, ceramics, or curiosities, offering architectural height and natural timber texture to living rooms, hallway alcoves, or home offices.

Treat the oak timber periodically with beeswax polish to maintain hydration, clean glass panes with a soft microfiber cloth, and keep the door tracks free of dust to ensure smooth sliding action.
