Sinclairs Antiques and Interiors has dated this Scottish Mahogany Longcase Clock to the 19th Century.
The painted dial features crisp Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds and date dials, and is signed D. Straiton, Montrose. Floral spandrels and a charming river‑and‑castle scene decorate the arch, with finely pierced brass hands completing the dial.
The richly grained mahogany case has a shaped trunk door with its original key, opening to reveal the hand‑painted pendulum. A solid, neatly moulded base gives the clock a confident, architectural presence.
A warm, characterful example by David Straiton of Montrose (active c.1820–1860), known for attractive painted dials and quality Scottish longcase clocks.
