Oak Cased Wall 'Dial' Clock with Lever Escapement, by Elliott. A Rare Style. Circa 20th Century.

1920 - 1940
For Sale by M. C. Taylor
Description

The 8 day duration, good quality, typical circular timepiece Elliott movement with their signature jewelled, lever, platform escapement.

Behind an 11 1/4" visible, flat painted dial with outer divided minute ring, Roman hour numerals and the retailer's name "FATTORINI, BRADFORD" applied over the upper regulation aperture. Also, "AN Elliott CLOCK" and "MADE IN ENGLAND" above and below the hour numeral VI. The black finished 'spade' hands are also typical of Elliott. The dial is protected with a glazed, hinged and ball catch copper bezel with a black finished sight ring.

Contained in a circular and slender oak case of excellent colour and having well laid premium grain veneer.

* F.W. Elliot were retailed by almost all of the finest jewellers in the UK including Garrards. Their clocks were of a very high standard and they would guarantee to be able to supply parts for at least 25 years. Thomas Fattorini started his business in 1827 and it continues to this day and is a major company.

** What is on offer here is not just a simple old wall clock but a rare style that is attractive, unbelievably original and in practically mint condition. I cannot stress these points too much.

Dimensions: 14" diameter x 3 1/2" deep.

Condition: The movement is fully working with an excellent action to the escapement but has been neglected in recent years or simply not run. I would recommend an overhaul at some point. The dial, hands, bezel and case are about as mint as you can get on a clock of this age - they are superb.

Price: The price is for the clock in its present and working condition. A price for any required work to the movement can be supplied upon request.

In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An English dial clock, often termed a station or school clock, is a wall-mounted timepiece featuring a prominent circular dial enclosed in a wooden surround, widely used across commercial and public spaces throughout the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Traditional wall dial clocks are constructed with solid hardwood surrounds, such as oak or mahogany, a painted brass or steel face, and a hinged glazed brass bezel protecting the hands.

Authentic period examples feature heavy brass mechanical movements, maker or distributor markings printed on the dial, a hinged bezel with latch mechanism, and solid timber casing rather than modern synthetic materials.

Position a classic oak wall clock above a hallway console table, kitchen sideboard, or home office desk to add architectural structure and classic utility to modern living spaces.

Keep the casing dry and situated away from direct heat sources, dust the dial glass gently with a soft cloth, and ensure the mechanical movement is professionally cleaned and lubricated periodically.
