Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian style cross-stretcher stool features four upright legs joined near the base by intersecting, X-shaped stretchers for added structural stability. Popularised during the eighteenth century, this design combines lightweight timber construction with formal balance.

Antique dressing stools were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or rosewood. The seats were padded using traditional upholstery methods incorporating horsehair, webbing, and hand-stitched needlepoint or damask fabrics.

Authentic period stools feature hand-cut joinery, such as mortise and tenon joints, along with natural wear on the stretcher bases where feet rested. Inspecting the underside reveals hand-sawn timber framing and original upholstery tacks or webbing marks.

Position the stool at the foot of a bed, beneath a console table, or alongside an armchair as an understated footrest. The classic timber tones and patterned upholstery complement both traditional country schemes and contemporary neutral interiors.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish annually along the wood grain. Protect original textile upholstery from direct sunlight to prevent fading, and clean gentle spots using a dry brush or dedicated fabric cleaner.
