Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French four-glass mantel clock is a horological casing style featuring four bevelled glass panels that permit full visibility of the inner movement and mercury or gridiron pendulum. Popularised in France during the mid to late nineteenth century, these clocks are constructed with precision brass frameworks, often embellished with marble, onyx, or enamel detailing.

Late nineteenth-century French clocks predominantly utilise cast gilt bronze or brass, polished natural stones such as marble and onyx, and thick bevelled glass panes. High-end examples frequently incorporate champleve or cloisonne enamel, where coloured glass paste is fired into carved metal cavities.

Authentic movements produced by Samuel Marti typically feature a circular medallion stamped directly onto the rear brass movement plate. These stamps often include the makers name surrounding a central emblem, along with mechanical awards won at Paris expositions during the late nineteenth century.

A four-glass clock serves as a focal architectural accent when displayed centrally on a fireplace mantelpiece, marble sideboard, or within a library display cabinet. Position the clock against neutral walls to highlight the contrast of the coloured enamel, exposed brass, and onyx detailing.

Clean onyx and gilded brass surfaces by gently dusting with a dry microfiber cloth, avoiding liquid polishes or abrasive detergents that can degrade original fire-gilding or penetrate stone micro-fractures. Glass panels should be cleaned using a cloth dampened slightly with water or specialist glass cleaner applied away from the brass frame.
