Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

During the Victorian era, silver-mounted scent bottles became popular personal accessories for holding perfumes or smelling salts. Often crafted in coloured or clear cut glass, they featured hallmarks on the silver caps indicating the maker and year of manufacture.

Traditional scent bottles were crafted from blown, moulded, or cut glass combined with precious metals like sterling silver or gold. Internal glass stoppers were frequently fitted beneath the metal cap to prevent liquid evaporation.

Authentic pieces usually display silver hallmarks on the collar or cap, precise hand-cut facets or wheel-engraved patterns on the glass, and original internal stoppers. Wear patterns around the base and hinge mechanisms also help verify period manufacture.

Display scent bottles on a dressing table, bathroom vanity, or bedside tray alongside books and small trinket dishes to add texture and historical interest. Grouping multiple glass bottles of varying heights creates a subtle, reflective visual vignette.

Clean the exterior glass gently with a soft cloth and warm water, taking care not to submerge silver mounts. Polish the silver element using a specialised, non-abrasive silver cloth to prevent build-up of tarnish and oxidisation.
