Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian pot cupboard is an English Country House bedside cabinet made from walnut with a warm brown colour and a polished finish. The piece takes the form of a compact freestanding cabinet standing on a plinth base. A single fielded door panel sits at the front, flanked by reeded side pilasters, while an ornate brass drop handle is fitted to the left side of the door. Minor signs of age and use appear across the timber, alongside historic worm marks and a few small knocks. The cabinet is 76 cm high, 41 cm wide, and 40 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this cabinet suits placement in an empty corner of a bedroom as a bedside table or in a living room as a small side storage unit. The top surface provides space for a lamp or decorative objects, while the interior shelving holds books and personal items. The sturdy timber construction allows everyday use, and the traditional design integrates into classic or eclectic interior schemes.

FAQs

Originally crafted during the Edwardian era between 1901 and 1910, a pot cupboard was designed as a small bedroom storage unit to discreetly contain a chamber pot prior to widespread indoor plumbing.

Edwardian cabinetmakers commonly selected fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, and oak, incorporating paneled timber doors, solid wood framing, and brass hardware.

Authentic Edwardian walnut pieces exhibit precise hand-finished joinery, clean architectural lines, reeded or moulded trim details, and period brass latches or handles.

These compact cabinets serve effectively as bedside tables, occasional side tables alongside living room seating, or accent storage units within hallways and cloakrooms.

Maintain walnut furniture by regularly dusting with a soft cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish to protect the timber surface, while keeping the item away from direct heat sources.
