Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A linen press is a substantial piece of case furniture featuring an upper cupboard, historically fitted with slides or shelves, set above a lower chest of drawers. Widely produced during the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, it served as primary storage for folded bed linens, table napery, and apparel.

Traditional linen presses were constructed using solid hardwoods such as mahogany and oak for upscale townhouses, or pine and fruitwoods for country homes. Pine examples were frequently treated with decorative faux-graining, paint, or scumbling to imitate more costly timber species.

Authentic nineteenth-century examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawers, original timber backboards, and two-part construction to facilitate transport. Evidence of original paint techniques, hand-turned knobs, and period brass or iron locks also indicate genuine age.

In modern spaces, these functional cabinets serve beyond traditional bedroom storage, working effectively as pantry cupboards in kitchens, utility storage in hallways, or media cabinets in living areas to conceal electronics while providing visual height.

Original painted and scumbled finishes should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry lint-free cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners, solvent waxes, or excessive moisture, applying only a light coat of specialist clear beeswax sparingly to preserve the historic patina.
