Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Empire style glass is characterised by heavy lead crystal with geometric cuts, often encased or mounted in gilded bronze, known as ormolu. The style draws inspiration from classical Roman and Greek motifs, featuring bold architectural symmetry and detailed metal castings.

These dishes were constructed using mouth-blown, hand-cut lead crystal combined with gilt bronze or brass mounts. The metal fittings were created using the lost-wax casting technique and mercury-gilded to achieve a bright gold appearance.

Authentic pieces feature hand-cut crystal with sharp facet edges and high light refraction. The metal mounts show precise chasing work, natural age-related oxidisation in deeper crevices, and custom fitting where the metal conforms directly to the glass rim or base.

A mounted glass dish can be displayed as a central focus on a dining table, console, or sideboard. It functions effectively when styled empty to catch natural light or when filled with decorative items or fruits to add texture.

Clean the glass section carefully using warm water and mild detergent on a soft cloth, avoiding full submersion to protect the metal joints. Dust the ormolu mounts with a dry, soft-bristled brush, avoiding chemical cleaners or abrasive polishes that strip gilding.
