Bohemian Enameled Cobalt Glass Decanter For The Persian Qajar Market, C.1870-1890

An impressive antique Bohemian cobalt glass decanter produced for the luxury Persian Qajar market during the late nineteenth century. Decorated with finely painted enamel portrait medallions of Naser al-Din Shah Qajar, it represents the type of prestigious luxury object commissioned by aristocratic and royal patrons during a period of growing cultural exchange between Central Europe and Persia.
 
The deep cobalt body is enriched with lavish raised gilding, hand-chased foliate ornament and delicate enamel decoration. The portrait reserves are executed to a particularly high standard and remain remarkably well preserved.
 
The finest examples of this specialised export production are closely associated with Ludwig Moser of Carlsbad (present-day Karlovy Vary, Czech Republic), whose workshop supplied luxury commissions to royal and aristocratic clients across Europe and the Persian Qajar world.
