We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Hall lanterns were originally designed in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries to illuminate entryways, vestibules, and staircases. The glass panels protected candle flames or gas jets from indoor draughts created by opening exterior doors.

Traditional period lanterns were constructed primarily from cast or sheet brass, bronze, or leaded iron frames fitted with clear blown or float glass panels. Metal components were often patinated, gilded, or lacquered for decorative effect and corrosion resistance.

Authentic period lanterns typically feature hand-cut glass with slight imperfections, cast metal frame joinery with slot-headed screws or hand-riveted joints, and natural oxidisation on untouched surfaces. Later conversions from gas or candle power to electricity often leave visible threadings or capped apertures.

A classic metal lantern creates a focal point when hung high in an entryway, stairwell, or over a dining area. It pairs effectively with both traditional period panelling and contemporary neutral backdrops, providing an architectural anchor to the room.

Dust metal frames gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth or horsehair brush, avoiding abrasive chemicals that strip historical patination. Clean glass panes using a mild vinegar solution applied to a cloth rather than sprayed directly onto the frame.
