Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French hall lanterns originated in the 18th century as enclosed glass light fixtures designed to protect candle flames from draughts in grand entryways. They typically feature cast bronze or brass frames with curved or flat glass panels and decorative scrollwork top sections.

Authentic period lanterns are generally constructed from cast bronze, brass, or gilded metal frames fitted with hand-blown glass panels. Internal fittings usually consist of central stems holding candle sockets or early electrical fittings surrounded by protective glazing.

Look for hand-finished casting details, natural patina or oxidisation within crevices, and irregular hand-blown glass panels displaying seed bubbles or slight distortions. Original construction often shows cast joinery, screwed or riveted assemblies, and historic wiring conversion signs.

A French hall lantern can be suspended in a stairwell, entryway, or over a dining area to create an architectural focal point. Pairing dark bronze finishes with neutral walls and traditional architectural mouldings enhances the contrast and structural silhouette of the fixture.

Clean metal frames using a soft, dry microfibre cloth to avoid removing the natural aged patina or protective lacquer. Glass panels should be carefully wiped with a dampened cloth using mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals that could damage original bronzed finishes.
