Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

French Rococo hall lanterns are characterised by elaborate asymmetrical scrollwork, floral accents, acanthus leaves, and cast figurative masks. Originating in 18th-century France, these glass-enclosed fixtures were crafted to protect open flames from draughts while showcasing ornate metalwork.

Authentic period lanterns were primarily constructed using cast bronze, brass, or gilded metal (ormolu), paired with hand-cut or mouth-blown curved glass panels. Internal fittings featured candle nozzles and drip pans prior to modern electrical conversions.

Authentic pieces display evidence of hand-chasing, foundry marks, or casting seams on the reverse of metal mounts. Original gilt finishes typically show natural patination, subtle oxidisation in crevices, and age-consistent wear around assembly joints and suspension points.

Suspended as a focal lighting element in a foyer, hallway, or above a dining area, a French bronze lantern adds historic texture to modern schemes. Designers often pair ornate antique metalwork with minimalist backdrops to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern lines.

Dust the metalwork gently using a soft, dry brush or microfibre cloth to avoid removing loose particles of original gilding or lacquer. Avoid chemical polishers and liquid cleaners on gilt surfaces, and clean glass panels carefully using a mild isopropyl alcohol solution applied via a cloth.
