Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This George III mahogany wall-mounted corner cabinet is built in the Georgian style from warm brown timber. It has a moulded cornice, panelled double doors, brass keyhole escutcheons, and a plinth base. The upper frieze has painted yellow lettering that reads WHITEHALL 1212, and the six door panels show painted yellow Roman numerals from IV to IX. The mahogany has a rich patina with visible grain patterns. Measuring 118 cm high, 85 cm wide, and 50 cm deep, the cabinet provides practical storage with internal shaped shelves. It suits placement in a living room, hallway, or vintage-themed study, fitting neatly into unused room corners to house books, glassware, or collectables.

FAQs

A George III corner cabinet dates from the reign of King George III (17601820). These pieces are characterised by classical proportions, fine timber such as mahogany or oak, and functional architectural mouldings designed to fit neatly into the corner of a room.

Cabinetmakers during the Georgian period primarily utilised solid mahogany and oak, often paired with brass hardware like escutcheons and H-hinges. Secondary woods such as pine or deal were frequently used for internal shelving and backing panels.

Authentic 18th-century pieces typically exhibit hand-sawn timber marks, hand-cut dovetail joints, original brass lock mechanisms, and uneven shrinkage on rear panels. Patination, authentic wear around keyholes, and original backboards also help confirm period origin.

Wall-mounted corner cabinets can be placed in dining spaces, hallways, or alcoves to utilise underused vertical space without reducing floor footprint. They pair well with period schemes or serve as historical contrast points in modern minimalist settings.

Mahogany should be dusted regularly with a soft, dry cloth and treated once or twice a year with a high-quality beeswax polish. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber movement and finish fading.
