A set of six crystal hock glasses from Bohemia represents the Art Nouveau style of the period around 1910. The set comprises clear crystal vessels featuring slender elongated stems, smooth circular flat bases, and gilded rims in gold leaf. Each glass displays a continuous green enamelled grapevine motif encircling the upper bowl, complete with detailed leaves and small clusters of grapes painted in various shades of green. Additional visible details include slender drawn stems widening towards the circular feet and polished rims edged in fine gold. Measuring 20 cm high, each glass provides a functional vessel suitable for serving wine or spirits. Placed upon a dining room sideboard top, the glassware brings period charm to an English Country House interior setting, ready for display or occasional dining use.

Originating in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Jugendstil glassware emerged in Germany and Austria as part of the broader Art Nouveau movement. Makers focused on organic forms, fluid line work, and decorative surface techniques such as cold enamelling and gilding inspired by nature.

Hock glasses from this period typically consist of mouth-blown lead crystal or potash glass. The surface decoration involves vitreous enamel paint fused onto the glass body, often accompanied by gold leaf gilding along the rims.

Authentic pieces display hand-applied enamel with subtle texture variations, slight asymmetry from hand-blowing, and pontil marks on the base. Manufacturers like Theresienthal often used distinct botanical motifs, elongated drawn stems, and paper labels or acid-etched maker marks.

These glasses can be displayed inside a glass-fronted cabinet or arranged on a sideboard top alongside silver or polished brass accessories. When setting a table, pairing them with neutral linen tablecloths highlights the green enamelled detail.

Clean gently by hand using lukewarm water and mild dish soap, avoiding abrasive sponges or harsh chemicals that can strip gold leaf and enamel. Do not place in a dishwasher or soak for extended periods, and dry immediately with a soft lint-free cloth.
