An antique George II mahogany 8 day strike silent longcase clock by the London maker Henry Weedon having a superb figured mahogany case with outstanding rich colour and patina throughout.The impressive arched brass and silvered dial retains its original finely pierced steel hands, subsidiary seconds dial and desirable strike/silent feature to the arch, allowing the owner to silence the hourly chime during the night, an expensive and highly sought after feature during the Georgian period. The dial is further decorated with elaborate gilt rococo spandrels and engraved Roman numerals with Arabic minute markers.The elegant mahogany case is of particularly fine proportions with a shaped hood flanked by fluted columns and surmounted by brass eagle finials.
