Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This early nineteenth-century housekeeper cupboard is a rustic farmhouse piece from the West Country, constructed from pine with a bright yellow painted finish and worn patination. It stands 211 cm high, 200 cm wide, and 59 cm deep with an internal depth of 43 cm, providing extensive storage through multiple sections. The upper section comprises three panelled doors beneath a moulded cornice, while the lower section arranges five small drawers between two wide drawers and a pair of panelled lower cupboard doors. Small turned wooden knobs furnish all the doors and drawers, and minor scuffs and marks across the yellow paint show the piece's age and heavy use. In a contemporary home, this large storage cabinet suits placement in a spacious kitchen, pantry, or boot room for organising household items, tableware, or linens. The traditional configuration accommodates everyday items while adding a bold, practical country aesthetic to domestic interiors.

FAQs

A housekeeper cupboard, historically common in large British country estates during the 18th and 19th centuries, served as a primary storage unit for household linens, dry foodstuffs, and tableware managed by the head housekeeper.

These cupboards were typically constructed from indigenous softwoods such as pine, or hardwoods like oak, often finished with paint, scumble glaze, or clear varnish to protect the timber.

Authentic examples feature hand-cut dovetail joints, pegged mortise and tenon joinery, historical wear around hand-turned knobs, and evidence of original paint layers or historic repainting.

Position the cupboard as a statement piece in a modern kitchen, dining area, or utility room to provide practical storage while adding warm historic texture to contemporary spaces.

Dust regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and avoid using harsh chemical cleaners or excess moisture, which can damage delicate historic paint finishes.
