A chatelaine scent bottle is a small, portable container for perfume suspended from a chatelaine, a decorative belt hook worn by women in the 19th century to carry household implements.

These vessels were typically crafted from coloured or clear glass, often featuring metal caps made from silver, gilt brass, or white metal, with intricate enamel and gilt detailing.

Authentic pieces usually feature hand-blown glass construction, period-specific metalwork mounts, genuine wear consistent with age, and distinctive decorative motifs characteristic of 19th-century European glassmakers.

An antique scent bottle can be displayed on a vanity tray, inside a glass-fronted cabinet, or placed as an accent object on a mantelpiece to add a touch of historical interest.

Preserve antique glass by keeping it out of direct sunlight, dusting gently with a soft microfibre cloth, and avoiding harsh chemical cleaners or submersion in water if metal mounts are present.
