Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Vernis Martin is an eighteenth-century French varnishing technique developed by the Martin brothers to emulate East Asian lacquer. It involves applying multiple layers of oil-and-amber varnish to create depth, often overlaid with hand-painted pastoral scenes or figurative panels.

Pieces from this period typically feature solid oak or pine frames veneered with exotic hardwoods such as kingwood, rosewood, or satinwood. Accent elements include carved ormolu (gilt bronze) mounts and polished marble tops fitted to the cabinet contours.

Look for heavy, finely chased gilt-bronze mounts with hand-tooling on the reverse, hand-painted figurative vignettes signed or executed in oil and lacquer, dove-tailed drawer joinery, and natural veining on the shaped marble slab.

Position the cabinet as a standalone accent piece against a modern, neutral backdrop to allow its intricate metalwork and painted panel to stand out. Complement the piece with simple modern wall lighting or minimal decorative accessories.

Dust the surfaces gently using a soft, dry microfibre cloth, keeping the item away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood movement and lacquer cracking. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners on the ormolu to retain the original gilded patina.
