Powder blue porcelain, known in China as chuiqing, is a cobalt glaze technique developed during the Qing Dynasty where ground cobalt pigment was blown onto unfired porcelain before glazing and firing, often finished with overglaze gilt decoration.

These pieces combine high-fired Chinese hard-paste porcelain decorated with gold leaf enamelling and Western cast gilt bronze, or ormolu, mounts applied around the bases and rims.
