Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A blue over crystal glass basket, produced by Joseph Simon for VSL in Belgium around 1930, represents the Art Deco period. The piece consists of heavy lead crystal with a vibrant cobalt blue exterior layer cut away to reveal clear glass beneath, highlighted by polished and faceted surfaces. Visual inspection reveals an integrated arched handle with spiral fluting, intricate geometric faceting across the body, and panels of diamond crosshatch cutting alternating with circular clear roundels. Measuring 18.8 cm high and 18.8 cm wide, the vessel provides a substantial decorative accent. Placed on a sideboard top, this item brings period glamour and reflective colour to a living room, dining room, or hallway setting, suitable for display either on its own or holding small decorative items.

FAQs

Cased glass, widely produced during the Art Deco era, is created by fusing two or more layers of differently coloured glass together before hand-grinding through the outer layer to expose the contrasting glass beneath.

Lead crystal is blown with an outer layer of tinted glass, after which craftsmen cut geometric patterns using abrasive wheels to reveal the transparent core beneath.

Authentic pieces frequently display precise geometric faceting, rich cobalt or ruby casing, substantial lead crystal weight, and occasional acid-stamped or etched signatures on the base.

Position the item where natural light can pass through it, such as a sideboard or window sill, to highlight the contrast between the rich blue tone and clear glass facets.

Hand wash gently using lukewarm water and mild detergent, avoiding abrasive sponges or dishwashers which can dull or scratch the polished crystal surfaces.
