Derby Porcelain Two-handled Vase Painted By Zachariah Boreman, Circa 1782–1805

£850    $1,142    €996
A refined Derby porcelain two-handled vase, decorated en grisaille with two oval landscape reserves framed by gilded borders, the scenes are painted by Zachariah Boreman (1738–1810), one of Derby’s most celebrated landscape painters.

Boreman’s landscapes are admired for their extraordinary delicacy: finely stippled brushwork, restrained tonal harmonies, and a remarkable ability to evoke depth and atmosphere on a miniature scale. The present vase captures this “less-is-more” elegance, with nuanced gradations and crisp detail lending the scenes a quietly dramatic presence.

Marks: puce painted factory mark, incised no. 77.

Date: circa 1782–1805.

Dimensions: 11 cm high; 10.5 cm diameter.

Condition: very good; tiny shallow chip to the foot rim. No other issues; no crazing.

A highly desirable collector’s piece — elegant on display as a cabinet work, and a particularly attractive example of Derby’s landscape painting tradition.
