Georgian Hop And Barley Engraved Facet Cut Stem Ale Flute

£215    $288    €252
This is a Georgian, hop and barley-engraved facet cut stem ale glass dating from the late 18th century, c1770. This is the second time this glass has passed through our hands.

The glass is in excellent condition for its age. It shows the age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.

The glass has an extended rounded funnel-shaped bowl measuring 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter at the rim. The bowl is engraved with a single hop flower and with a single barley ear to verso. The bowl sits on a hexagonal facet cut stem. The stem leads to a conical foot that measures 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) in diameter. The glass is 16.5 cm (6.6 inches) in height. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. There is a collector''s sticker to the underside of the foot for the Peter Eales collection.
