This is a scarce Georgian, English, baluster stem patch stand dating from the middle of the 18th century, c1740.
The stand is in excellent condition for its age. It shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the foot consistent with some 250 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the foot.
The glass has a broad, flat, round upper surface with a raised rim measuring 11.5 cm (4.6 inches) in diameter. The bowl sits on an inverted baluster hollow stem that ends in a domed and folded foot which measures 7.1 cm (2.8 inches) in diameter. The stand is 7.5 cm (3 inches) in height. There are some minute unburst air bubbles in the metal of the upper surface. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration.
Lead glass weighing in at 170 g. (~ 6 oz.).
