Georgian Small Mould-blown Cream Jug with Blue Glass Rim

19th century
Description

This is a small Georgian, three-part mould-blown, glass cream jug with an applied blue glass rim dating from the beginning of the 19th century, c1820.

The jug is in excellent condition for its age. This means of course that it shows age related wear and tear to the rim of the base consistent with some 200 years of use. It has a rough pontil mark on the underside of the base.

The jug has a baluster-shaped bowl measuring 6.4 cm (2.5 inches) in diameter at the pouring rim. The bowl was blown into a three part mould and the pattern is a mixture of diamond-moulding and prism-moulding. The pouring rim is enhanced with applied blue glass. The jug is 8.5 cm (3.4 inches) across at its widest point (pouring spout to outside of the handle) and is 9 cm (3.6 inches) in height. The base is moulded. The handle was first applied to the top of the bowl and then finished off at the bottom of the bowl with a curlicue. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any other obvious evidence of restoration. There is a collector's sticker to the base and a sticker for Marris Antiques.

A pretty, period jug weighing in at 170 g. (~ 6 oz.).

Provenance: with Marris Antiques

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
