Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region in Japan and is characterised by its signature underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red and gold palette, widely exported to Europe throughout the 17th to 19th centuries.

These vessels are crafted from refined kaolin clay, decorated with underglaze cobalt oxide before initial firing, and subsequently detailed with hand-applied iron-red enamels and gold leaf before a secondary firing.

Authentic pieces display subtle asymmetrical hand-painted brushwork, light imperfections in the glaze or porcelain body, spur marks on the base rim, and natural age-related rubbing to the gilded surfaces.

Large Imari vases function as statement floor-standing accents in grand foyers, placed symmetrically within fireplace alcoves, or positioned atop large sideboards to introduce pattern and scale.
