Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This vintage Italian Rococo side cupboard stands on slender cabriole legs with carved scrollwork motifs decorating the gold and green gesso and timber surfaces. A serpentine front incorporates a single upper drawer fitted with dark circular knobs, positioned above a pair of lower cupboard doors with matching hardware and ornate scroll details. Distressed patches on the gilded and painted finishes display signs of age across the body, while the shaped edges define the compact profile. The piece measures 64 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 33 cm deep. Position this side cupboard in an empty corner of a living room, hallway, or bedroom as a decorative display surface and storage unit. The antique design complements traditional interiors, providing a practical surface for lamps, books, or small decorative items alongside enclosed storage compartments.

FAQs

Italian Florentine giltwood furniture is recognised by its ornate Rococo-inspired forms, elaborate foliate scrollwork, hand-applied gold leaf finishes, and contrasting painted or patinated detailing.

These cabinets typically feature a carved wooden frame coated in gesso, finished with gilding leaf, tempera paint accents, and protective wax to create visual depth and sheen.

Look for natural surface wear showing grey or red bole beneath the gilded layers, hand-carved joinery details, serpentine aprons, cabriole legs, and fine age cracking in the gesso coating.

Position the piece as an accent in an entryway, living room nook, or bedroom, pairing its metallic patina with streamlined contemporary artwork or simple ceramics for contrast.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth or dry brush, avoiding water, harsh chemical spray cleaners, or commercial solvents that could strip the delicate gilding and gesso layer.
