Strike Repeat Carriage Clock, Superb Condition

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Clockwise

Clockwise is delighted to welcome into stock this lovely eight day Victorian carriage clock with strike and repeat function.

The corniche brass case is in fantastic condition as are the five bevelled glasses and the clock retains its vanity plate to the underside of the base.

The rack-striking movement has a lever platform and has just been serviced and cleaned so benefits from my three year guarantee. The platform escape wheel has a dynamic action and the full hours are struck every hour onto a spiral

gong with a single strike at every half hour. Original moon hands compliment the exquisite dial which is signed ''Gowland, Sunderland & Paris''. Clement Gowland was a watchmaker in Sunderland between 1780 and 1800 although members of Mr Gowland''s family were running the business in Sunderland''s High Street after those dates. From around 1825 until around 1840, William Gowland and his brother Clement were running the business and this clock dates from that period.
