Mary Gregory glass refers to glassware decorated with silhouette figures, usually children, painted in white enamel. This style of decoration became popular during the late 19th century, particularly in Victorian England and continental Europe.

These pieces typically feature mould-blown or pressed glass fitted with brass or gilt metal hinges and mounts. The white enamel design is hand-painted onto the surface and fired to bond with the glass.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-mixed glass characteristics such as tiny air bubbles or pontil marks, alongside patinated brass fittings and genuine wear to the white enamel painting rather than modern printed transfers.

Antique glass items add rich colour and texture when displayed on dressing tables, mantelpieces, or open shelving. Pairing them with contemporary minimalist decor allows the historic craftsmanship to stand out.

Clean antique glass using a soft, dry cloth or lukewarm water with mild soap, avoiding harsh chemicals that can damage fragile enamel work or metal hinges. Keep items out of direct sunlight to prevent colour fading.
